Stories of Women at the Smithsonian in STEM.
Naturalists Rudy Mancke and Austin Jenkins are back for the second installment in our winter series of Virtual Nature Talks. Please join us for an evening that is sure to be packed with charming stories, unusual critters and fascinating discoveries about the natural world of South Carolina. Rudy and Austin will share their latest observations and discoveries, as well as answer your questions!
For nearly 20 years, Monarchs Across Georgia has engaged educators and community members in educational and scientific projects to protect and restore pollinator habitat. This work has made strides statewide as well as nationally and internationally benefiting monarchs and other pollinators. “Volunteers are vital to this effort,” said Susan Meyers, co-chair of the organization. “If you enjoy being outdoors and exploring your local ecosystem, if you want to learn more about this fascinating migratory insect, if you would like to contribute to a scientific study, this is an easy activity that can be done alone or with your family.”

South Carolina’s second annual CSPDWeek is brought to you by CSTA, CSTA South Carolina, Code.org and their Regional Partner, The Citadel STEM Center, and the SCDE CTE Office.
We are looking forward to hosting hundreds of South Carolina K-12 teachers to join us for this free, virtual computer science professional development the week of
July 26-30, 2021 from 9:00am to 4:00pm each day.
South Carolina K-12 public teachers can choose one, week-long, PD workshop and participate in a great deal of networking and fun throughout the week!
Some highlights of this year's event:
• FREE, no cost to attend
• Virtual, 30-hours with synchronous and asynchronous learning
• 13 workshops to choose from for K-12 public school teachers
• Stipends available for most teachers
Ready to Register?
Step 1) Explore the Catalog
You will be asked to choose your top 3 workshop choices. So, please visit the workshop catalog to explore all the options that would be a good fit for your classroom.
If you are selecting the K-8: Unpacking the CS Standards workshop, you will need to complete the Team Commitment form.
The SC Dept of Ed (SCDE) will be issuing CEUs for all workshops indicating teachers participated in 30-hours of PD at CSPDWeek. Only workshops labeled with the image track in the workshop catalog qualify as a state-approved 30-hour professional development required to teach the Discovering Computer Science, Fundamentals of Computing and Web Page Design and Development courses.
Step 2) Principal Support Form
Applicants must submit the Principal Support Form with their application. Prior to applying, obtain support from your principal’s for your participation in CSPDWeek and agree to the following steps of this research project:
Teacher Pre-Survey & Teacher Post-Survey
Attendance during the PD week of July 26-30, 2021
Teaching the learned content/material to South Carolina students in a public school setting during the 2021-2022 academic year
Participation in 2021-2022 academic year PD (during non-contract hours)
Step 3) Apply for CPDWeek
